West Liberty University Foundation Announces First Graduate Student Scholarship | News, Sports, Jobs

WEST LIBERTY – West Liberty University now has its first scholarship designed exclusively for postgraduate students. Established with the WLU Foundation, the scholarship is for a graduate student enrolled in the Master of Science in Medical Assistant Studies program.

The two major donors who funded the new award are Dr. Howard Shackelford of Wheeling and Dr. Robert Wetzel of St. Clairsville, Ohio.

“I am very grateful to Dr Shackelford and Dr Wetzel for helping us establish the first endowed scholarship for PA students. Both doctors felt it was important to give back to the healthcare community, strengthen the WLU PA program and reduce student debt, ” said Angela Zambito-Hill, Executive Director of the WLU Foundation.

The fund currently holds over $ 22,000. The first PA student to receive an endowed scholarship award is expected to be selected in June 2022.

“This is the very first PA-specific scholarship, and while we have one of the most affordable programs in the region, I am proud to say that we have been working to create a scholarship for support our graduate students in AP and reduce their debt, “ said William Childers, EdD, MS, PA-C, who is the PA program director.

In addition to improving affordability, the scholarship will strengthen WLU’s ability to recruit students, he noted.

WLU now has a total of 10 master’s programs.

WLU’s PA program began in the summer of 2012 and is housed in the newest college building on campus, the Campbell Hall of Health Sciences.
