UPMC health system: a national benchmark for the use of technology | Technology
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, many organizations adapted their services to an online format, if possible. Even hospitals have joined the trend, offering virtual patient care. UPMC’s healthcare system has been recognized for its use of advanced technologies over the past year.
This is not the first victory for UPMC technologies. For the 23rd consecutive year, UPMC was named one of the country’s “Digital Health Most Wired” health systems by the College of Health Information Management Executives (CHIME) – and one of seven health systems eligible for the highest level of recognition.
The CHIME Digital Health Most Wired program conducts an annual survey to assess how effectively healthcare organizations are using advanced technologies in their clinical and business operations to improve the health of their communities. Over 36,000 organizations responded to the survey this year.

UPMC obtained the highest possible score of a level 10 in the domestic ambulatory and acute categories. To achieve this recognition, UPMC and others in this group implemented and harnessed advanced technologies, including telemedicine, bedside data access and cost analysis tools. to improve care, the patient experience and access to services, while reducing costs.
Over the past five years, UPMC has invested more than $ 2.4 billion in technology across the health system to improve the quality and efficiency of care. Recognized for its technological leadership, UPMC was an early adopter of electronic medical records and is at the forefront of advancements in biometrics, machine learning and natural language processing.
