WASHINGTON, October 18, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance (MFHA) today announced that #FairKitchens, a campaign created by Unilever Food Solutions, has helped $50,000 to support MFHA’s new DEI ELEVATE initiative – a menu for change. ELEVATE provides foodservice, catering and hospitality operators with guidance on how to develop a world-class culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.

MFHA announces that #FairKitchens from Unilever Food Solutions has contributed $50,000 to support the DEI initiative, ELEVATE.

ELEVATE launched this summer with a landmark DEI survey conducted by the MFHA, National Restaurant Association, National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF), and Cornell University Nolan School of Hotel Administration. The survey and report showed that strong DEI initiatives have a positive impact on job satisfaction, engagement and retention. Information from the report along with 25 years of MFHA diversity leadership informed ELEVATE.

Similarly, 2017 research from Unilever Food Solutions found that a third of chefs feel underappreciated on a daily basis, and more than 60% believe their mental health is negatively affected by their work. In response, Unilever Food Solutions founded #FairKitchens in 2018 to highlight the importance of creating a healthy cooking culture based on open communication, passion, support and teamwork. #FairKitchens offers tools that recognize and address the underlying issues that contribute to unhealthy kitchen cultures.

#FairKitchen support helps the MFHA, NRAEF and National Restaurant Association distribute the DEI report to the industry for free. Additionally, #FairKitchens will make ELEVATE available to 100 of its restaurant partners to help them adopt effective DEI strategies and initiatives.
