Tencent partners with SOOS OIO to improve healthy gameplay in Singapore
A series of hybrid events to promote intergenerational communication and digital well-being among neighborhood youth
SINGAPORE, May 22, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — With the number of video players in Singapore should hit 3 million by 2026, video and mobile games have touched the lives of many internet users, serving as a conduit for making meaningful social connections and a platform for cultivating prosocial behaviors. Against this landscape, Tencent possesses has partnered with local social enterprise SOOS OIO to host a series of parenting webinars, workshops and community gaming tournaments during this year’s Digital For Life festival, hosted by that of Singapore Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
The events, which span two weekends (May 21-22, May 28-29), aim to promote digital wellbeing among the public, and more specifically to support the growth of a healthy gaming environment. , inclusive and balanced for all in Singapore. The collaboration builds on SOOS OIO’s local networks and experience working with Singaporean parents and youth, as well as Tencent’s global expertise in creating a positive gaming environment.

Webinar on Understanding Games, Players and Gambling Addiction
During the webinar, parents were equipped with the framework to better understand games, gamers and gambling addiction, which allowed them to better appreciate the motivations behind certain gambling behaviors. Participants were also exposed to various communication strategies as well as a brief introduction to neurofeedback intervention – with the overall goal of improving parent-child communication and relationships.
Parenting Challenge Workshops: Communicating and Engaging Young Players at Home Through Role-Playing
As an extension of the webinar, participants put to use the theories and communication strategies learned through role-playing sessions on common scenarios in families. These hands-on sessions contextualized learnings and deepened participants’ understanding of theories through re-enactment in a safe environment.
Families and friends have teamed up to compete in a casual, community-based gaming tournament uniquely designed to be inclusive and fun for everyone. Two family game titles, brawl stars and Roblox: Super Striker League have been featured in telematches – albeit with a twist thanks to a special rewards system that celebrates myriad achievements, beyond the highest score. This serves to ignite participants’ creative and strategic gameplay and teamwork while ensuring games are accessible to all family members.
