Nokia Launches Next Generation AirScale 5G Wallet

Nokia has announced the global launch of its latest AirScale 5G product line covering baseband, remote headsets and massive MIMO active antennas with digital beamforming.

Nokia says the solutions are powered by Nokia’s latest generation of ReefShark System-on-Chip (SoC) chipsets and deliver high network capacity and performance while enabling efficient deployments and operation. The deployment of new products is already underway.

Nokia introduces its new generation of ReefShark powered AirScale massive MIMO antennas with 32TRX and 64TRX products, as well as 8T8R remote head end solutions. The 32TRX is a lightweight, 17 kg device that simplifies and speeds up on-site deployments. It supports high radio bandwidth (200 MHz occupied bandwidth and 400 MHz instantaneous bandwidth) and provides high radio output power.

The new massive 32TRX and 64TRX MIMO antennas both support sparse spectrum and network sharing cases.

Nokia is also introducing its new SoC-based baseband plug-in cards to increase the capacity of the AirScale system module. New plug-in cards powered by ReefShark deliver up to eight times the throughput and service up to eight times more cells compared to previous generations.

Nokia claims that ReefShark-powered plug-in cards are easy to install and simplify the upgrade and extended operation of all AirScale deployments. The Nokia baseband module can support 90,000 simultaneously connected users and has a speed of 84 Gbit / s. Highly efficient plug-in cards powered by ReefShark also reduce power consumption by up to 75%.

Nokia comments that the AirScale modular baseband allows mobile operators to scale their capacity flexibly and efficiently as their 5G business grows.

Nokia Single RAN software now includes 5G, which Nokia says will accelerate 5G deployments and reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) of the overall radio access network, freeing up network efficiency with common transport , common operability, common software delivery and increased hardware sharing.

The combination of Nokia’s Single RAN software and new baseband plug-in cards offers multimode (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G) and multiband and supports the latest fronthaul interfaces (eCPRI) on a band platform single base, simplifying the network and lowering costs.

Nokia claims that the AirScale baseband architecture is designed to be scalable and support increasing demands for wireless traffic. By separating the L1 and L2 (Layer 1 and Layer 2) calculations from the L3 (Layer 3) and Transport baseband plug-in units, capacity can be added when and where it is needed in the network. Network modernization can be easily achieved either by a software upgrade or by adding new plug-in units into the existing baseband.

Nokia says ReefShark chipsets will also play a critical role in future artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities. Nokia has already introduced AI / ML capabilities in areas such as predictive load balancing, anomaly detection and intelligent traffic management.

All Nokia ReefShark platforms are AI / ML compatible. Nokia said it is doing proof-of-concept with customers this year in innovative areas such as massive MIMO beam pattern optimization, energy savings, advanced traffic direction, advanced packet planning and the discovery of alarm patterns.

Patrick Filkins, Senior Research Analyst at IDC IoT and Mobile Network Infrastructure, said: “5G networks are absolutely essential for improving network capacity and performance, especially when higher bandwidth is demanded.

“Nokia’s new portfolio addresses these concerns by allowing mobile operators to flexibly scale their capacity while helping to smoothly switch to 5G from existing technologies in a simple and cost-effective manner.

“The integration of Nokia’s ReefShark SoCs over the radio and baseband improves performance and capacity, and the new massive MIMO antennas set a new benchmark for low weight without compromising performance. These solutions will help mobile operators respond to the increasingly dynamic mobile services space that requires more capacity, ”concluded Filkins.

Nokia Mobile Networks President Tommi Uitto said: “Our new generation of AirScale radio and baseband products powered by ReefShark is proof of our successful business transformation and our ability to deliver market-leading products. to our global customers.

“Nokia’s New Portfolio Enables Communication Service Providers to Deliver Industry-Leading 5G Experiences to Both Consumer and Business Customers with Premium Speeds, Capacity and Connectivity Supported by a ‘Plug-in’ Deployment transparent, simple and efficient. Our new AirScale products are O -RAN Ready They consume less energy and underline our commitment to climate change.

“We are delighted to see our customers deploy these products and to see the transformative impact of 5G technology,” Uitto concluded.
