Elpitiya Plantations estate welfare officers receive HRM training

Elpitiya Plantations PLC recently conducted a customized certificate course in Human Resource Management for its Plantation Social Welfare Officers.

The main objective was to transform the traditional role of plantation welfare manager into a human resources professional with higher expectations and responsibilities. Elpitiya Plantations PLC is the first Regional Plantation Company (RPC) in Sri Lanka to have implemented an apprenticeship program of this nature.

To recognize these employees, an awards ceremony was organized with the participation of the Managing Director, CEO, members of senior management of Elpitiya Plantations PLC and the Director of Human Resources of Aitken Spence PLC.

This will be an ongoing program to develop relevant skills for competent teams in the areas of Elpitiya Plantations, the first phase of which has been completed. The program took place over six months and covered many topics ranging from human resources, organizational planning to information technology (IT). These have been identified as crucial areas of intervention to improve skills and inculcate the values ​​of the organization and, furthermore, to improve the livelihoods of the plantation community.

There were 58 participants and more than 80% of them were women. All modules were facilitated by an internal or external professional. The program also covered attitudinal and behavioral skills to help participants recognize and value the true meaning of their learning and career progression, as the majority did not go beyond the basic educational qualification.
