Borja invited to Augusta National Women’s Amateur

AUGUSTA, Ga.University of Michigan Women’s Junior Golf Hailey Borja was invited Thursday, Jan. 13, to compete in the 2022 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, March 30-April 2, Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. If she advances, she will play a final round at the prestigious Augusta National.

Along with an international women’s amateur field, the field will compete in a 54-hole stroke play event. Beginning with 36 holes at the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club on Wednesday and Thursday, March 30 and 31, the field will be narrowed down to the top 30, who will move on to Augusta National.

The full field will play an official practice round in Augusta on Friday April 1, while the advancing Final 30 will play a final round on Saturday April 2.

During her playing career at Michigan, Borja earned second-team All-Big Ten honors (2020, 21) as she was the first UM rookie to earn an all-conference honor. Missing no career events, she started 19 consecutive events for the Maize and Blue and boasts a career average of 73.25, which is on course to set Wolverine’s all-time record.

In her 19 events, she has 11 top 20 finishes, including four top-five finishes, including an FGCU Dueling win (January 18, 2021) and a tie for fifth at the NCAA Championships (May 21-26, 2021), first place of a Wolverine to the national championship.

Away from collegiate events, Borja has eight USGA events under her belt, including three consecutive appearances at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships. Moving on to match play in those three events, she achieved her best finish of 2021 by making the Sweet 16.

The 2022 Augusta Women’s National Amateur Champion, as long as she retains her amateur status, will receive an invitation to the next five Augusta Women’s National Amateurs – the 2022 US Women’s Open, the 2022 Women’s British Open and any USGA , R&A and PGA. Amateur Championships of America – for which she is eligible for one year.

Tickets will be available in advance through an application process. No tickets will be available at the gates.
