installed it earlier today. by far more features than any other cfw including rebug rex. that's what I was waiting on till I swap out systems with my legit one. I have three tales of games on that system that I've never beaten or played, and I don't want to risk my legit account.

I'm purchasing a PS3 in the next few weeks and this CFW seems like it would fit the bill.
I've modded a lot of consoles before (all Nintendo stuff since the Wii, handhelds, PSP, Vita) but never a PS3 yet so I've got a couple of questions!
- Do I need a specific PS3 that is exploitable?
- How easy is it to do?
- Is there a failsafe guide to follow (like switch.homebrew.guide)?
- Is cfw easy to play backups with?
- What do all the different things mean? In terms of CEX, DEX etc?
Thanks to anyone that can help.

- Do I need a specific PS3 that is exploitable? Yes and No, all models can be hacked easily, some slim models and all super slim models must use HAN to play backups and use cfw. earlier ps3 models can be hacked with cfw. best option is to get a slim with serial number starting with 20xx, 21xx, or 25xx.
- How easy is it to do? So easy a child could do it with written steps.
- Is there a failsafe guide to follow (like switch.homebrew.guide)? Here. guide is old, but is the one I always used.
- Is cfw easy to play backups with? Yes, very simple to do.
- What do all the different things mean? In terms of CEX, DEX etc? CEX is retail units, DEX are development units/dev kits.
Your best bet is to get a early slim model cech-2xx model.

Hello, what's the difference between DEX, CEX, PEX, D-PEX?

cex is retail; dex is debug; pex is like rex for rebug, but it uses 4.84 files that have been patched to work on 4.89; and d-pex is the same, but you install it over dex firmware.

CEX is consumer what people got when they buy them when the ps3 first came out, DEX is Developer.

you can't install cfw directly from that. I don't have any experience with hfw, but I think if you're above 4.85, there's nothing you can currently do to install cfw the easy way. below that, I think you can use the original flashing tool. also, you need to make sure your system can even install cfw, not all systems can.

you can't downgrade without being on cfw or using a flasher. you'll have to wait for bguerville toolset/box to come back online probably, which could be soon or never. there's no way to tell. considering the lack of donations, I wouldn't bring it back online, because devs shouldn't have to code, then pay for everything.

I was wondering.
Since Evil-nat now introduced the "d-pex" firmware.
Does that mean you can switch between cex and dex on his new 4.89.3 firmware via rebug toolbox? (coming from rebug 4.84 dex)

you may be able to switch in cfw settings. I haven't checked it out, but yes, you can switch.

Nope........
"Full PS2 Games Compatibility" is a bit overhyped.
PS2 compatibility is not "full". It is "good" if the PS2 CONFIG database is used. Without the configs, it would be "fair".
There are games with issues even on consoles with full backward compatibility.

not sure why it says that, but not every game will work, especially with a non-bc unit.

I don't know if the newest version of cfw has the new xai plugin, but you can download it from the release thread on psx-place. it's 1.3. I tried downloading it using the built in downloader, but it only had 1.2, so it may or may not work with the downloader now. it fixes an issue with ps2 game playback iirc.
